FOR MANY it would not be Christmas without a trip to see a traditional family pantomine.

It is not too late to enjoy the fun and games at Buxton Opera House’s family pantomime Cinderella which is being shown until Wednesday, January 1.

Channel Theatre Productions are once again taking over the theatre and presenting their flagship show, after complimentary national reviews for last year’s pantomime, Peter Pan.

The show will welcome back talented young dancers from the area, performing routines to well known songs in a typical panto style.

There is a generous helping of comedy for all the family in the shape of two dames as the Ugly Sisters and ‘nice but silly’ Buttons, being played by CBBC star Jonny Freeman, who was school caretaker Frank London in the Sci-fi adventure series ‘M.I. High’.

The pantomime tells the traditional fairy-tale of Cinderella, an orphaned young lady who lives with her wicked step mother and her cruel, ugly step-sisters.

Despite sleeping on the floor and having little possessions Cinderella is a gentle girl and is kind to all, dreaming of a better future.

That is where the Fairy Godmother steps in, this year performed by Sarah Thomas who is probably best known for her long-running role in ‘Last of the Summer Wine.’

Cinderella is played by West End Star Olivia Sloyan who also performed as Snow White in the 2011 Pantomime at Buxton Opera House.

Spokesman Jake Randall said: “This year’s pantomime promises a feast of entertainment which will delight the whole family from start to finish.”

A recent online review of the performance in The Public Review says: “Having not seen a pantomime for many years, I’d honestly forgotten how much fun could be had by all and this production of ‘Cinderella’ certainly did not disappoint.

“I was soon roaring with laughter, louder than my niece and nephew at times in fact, along with the rest of the audience.”

Tickets are priced from £16 to £21 and discounts are available.
