MOTORISTS in Ashbourne can now monitor where road works are taking place.

Derbyshire County Council has launched an online checker that contains a digital map and search facility giving details about planned road works.

The new online facility allows road users to search areas and gives details of the duration of the works and how heavy the traffic is.

Councilor Simon Spencer, Derbyshire County Council’s Deputy Leader and cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “We know how important high quality roads are to residents.

“Obviously we always try to keep disruption to a minimum while we’re improving Derbyshire’s roads but we know roadwork’s can be disruptive.

“This new system is really useful for people living, working, and visiting Derbyshire.

“By providing a quick and easy way of checking for roadwork’s on their routes, we can help them prepare for the journey ahead and hopefully help reduce disruption further.” The website covers 80 per cent of roads in England and all the roads in Derbyshire except for the M1 and the A38, which are covered by the highways agency.

The system shows which organisations are responsible for the road works and includes contact details for further information.
