TRIBUTES have been paid to the much-treasured actor Michael Clarke Duncan, who rose to prominence playing a death row inmate in acclaimed film The Green Mile, after he died at the age of 54.
Duncan suffered a heart attack in July and died at a hospital in Los Angeles after failing to recover.
He was nominated for an Oscar in 2000 for his portrayal as convicted murderer John Coffey alongside Tom Hanks in The Green Mile.
A former bodyguard, the 6ft 4in Duncan was an imposing figure who played a wide variety of action roles and also voiced animated parts.
His versatility saw him team up with Bruce Willis to save the earth in Armageddon, then play it for laughs in Will Ferrell's racing comedy Talladega Nights.
IN one of the surprise casting moves of the month Jim Carrey has signed up to play the role of The Colonel in the Jeff Wadlow-directed sequel Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall.
Carrey will play the character who helps galvanize the team of misfit super heroes assembled to fight evil.
The sequel brings back Chloe Moretz, Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Nicolas Cage.

The Dark Knight Rises has a little way to go to catch up, sitting currently down in ninth on $431.1m.
The same two films sit above The Avengers in the all-time worldwide chart, with Titanic on $2.1bn and Avatar on a jaw-dropping $2.7bn.
