Classic love story on stage

Written byNATALIE WAKEFIELD

A CLASSIC love story of passion, loss and redemption is set to come to Derby’s Guildhall Theatre in February.

Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre is brought to the stage as part of the highly acclaimed Hull Truck Theatre’s first national tour for 2013.

From a harsh childhood controlled by unfeeling adults, Jane Eyre has to rely on her own courage and convictions to make her way in the world.

She longs to learn and dares to dream.

After a difficult start in life, Jane decides to make her own way in the world. Employed as a governess, she travels across the bleak Yorkshire moors to the mysterious Thornfield Hall – a house of locked doors and strange occurences, with hints of a dangerous secret. There, her employer, the strange, sardonic and intriguing Mr Rochester, awakens passions Jane never knew she could feel.

When the tragic and horrifying mystery is uncovered, Jane is devastated and, overwhelmed by her sorrow, flees into the night.

Charlotte Bronte’s classic is one of the greatest and most popular works of English fiction and is brought to the stage by playwright Laura Turner. She said: “It’s a privilege to be adapting Jane Eyre for this Hull Truck Theatre tour.I think at the centre of Jane Eyre is a dilemma we can all identify with: whether to follow our

head or our heart.”

Tickets are from £12.25 and more information is available by telephoning 01332 255800.
