DEVELOPERS planning to build a wind farm in a village near Ashbourne have promised a £300,000 handout to pay for upgrades to the community's recreation ground if the scheme goes ahead.
Brassington Recreation Ground Charitable Association has been offered the cash to help complete a major sporting and recreational facility in return for accepting a cluster of five 100-metre turbines on a nearby hillside.
A spokesman for Griffe Grange Wind Farm Ltd said: "We firmly believe that communities should benefit from hosting wind power projects and this sort of agreement is strongly encouraged by national planning guidance.''
The turbines would generate electricity to power 7,000 homes. The application will go before the southern area planning committee of Derbyshire Dales District Council later this year.
