BIRDWATCHING enthusiasts were out in force to learn more about the pastime when an expert guide recently visited a reservoir near Ashbourne.
The Winter Wildfowl workshop, which was organised by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, attracted a full house to hear guest speaker Nigel Slater’s talk on identifying water birds and migrant visitors.
The group had the chance to put into practice some of the skills they had learnt on the day, with an opportunity to leave the classroom and go outside to spot the birds they had been talking about.
Carsington Water, just outside Ashbourne, is recognised as one of the best sites in the area to see waterfowl and some of the birdwatchers were lucky enough to see Great Northern Divers on the reservoir.
Derbyshire Wildlife Trust manages 42 nature reserves in the region, and works to promote and care for the natural environment and raise awareness of wildlife issues across Derbyshire and beyond.
The group runs regular workshops and seminars, including events aimed specifically at younger audiences, and full day volunteering opportunities.
