A PUB near Ashbourne has been awarded a place in a national gastro-pub list of recommended places to eat.

Judges placed The Duncombe Arms, Ellastone, 26th in the Budweiser Budvar Top 50 Gastro-pubs Awards 2014 – less than two years after it reopened.

Johnny and Laura Greenall refurbished and reopened the village pub in March 2012, since when it has enjoyed a rapidly spreading reputation for good food and a traditional pub atmosphere.

Johnny Greenall said: “We are delighted to have achieved this accolade, which is real recognition for the hard work everyone has put in.

“This has been a team effort and Laura and I would like to thank general manager, James Oddy, head chef Matt Wadsley and all the talented people who work with us.

“We’d also like to thank them all for their brilliant work in enabling us to get the recognition from the industry experts.

“We work together to provide superb food day and night as well as offering a warm welcome to all our customers, and will continue to do that in the future as we try our best to improve on our present position for the 2015 awards.”
