How to beat cycle crime

POLICE chiefs are advising bike owners on a number of ways to keep their property secure.

Get a good quality lock and expect to pay at least £40. Make sure you buy a certified Sold Secure lock, which is tested to withstand attack.

Mark the bike with a unique code to ensure that the police will be able to trace it back to you. Use a UV pen or Smartwater.

Keep a record of the frame number, the make and model and any other marks that can identify your bike. Register the bike for free at www.bikeregister.com.
