AN Ashbourne charity which provides support to vulnerable and isolated people is due to benefit from a year of fund-raising by staff and customers in one of the town's supermarkets.

Careline has been picked as the chosen charity by 54 members of staff at M&S Simply Food in Waterside Park, who have voted to channel their next 12 months of fund-raising efforts towards the befriending service.

Staff say they chose the volunteer-run service, which is based at St Oswald's Hospital and makes regular telephone calls to the elderly and vulnerable, because of its "valuable befriending work".

Store manager Rebecca Walsh said: "We're delighted to be able to support Careline with fund-raising activities over the next few months."
