ASHBOURNE FC could soon have a new football pitch in the town after a unanimous decsion to give the proposed facility the green light.

The pitch, which has been supported by Cedar House Investments and the National Lottery, is to be built on land off Mayfield Road, behind Waterside Park, and its concept has been welcomed by the Derbyshire Dales District Council's Southern Area Planning Committee, who all put their hands up to allow the project to go ahead at a meeting on Tuesday.

In recent years the club has struggled to further its progress into more prestigious leagues because of its reliance on a public, local authority-owned pitch at Ashbourne Recreation Ground.
