ASHBOURNE is to lose another public toilet block, the district council has announced.

Derbyshire Dales District Council will shut the doors of its King Edward Street toilets at Ashbourne's bus station for the final time tomorrow as it makes way for the extension of the town's Sainsbury's store.

The supermarket chain bought the land occupied by the toilets a few years ago and paid £75,000 into a fund that went on to build the town's £250,000 'superloo' in Shaw Croft, which has gone on to win awards.

Later during development work, which is expected to be completed by the autumn, the 37-space District Council car park in King Edward Street will be closed temporarily, to be replaced on completion of the work by a new car park of the same size, along with a brand new bus shelter.
