EASTER activities are taking place in and around Ashbourne this year to help families make the most of their holidays.

Among the activities, rangers at Carsington Water are inviting people on a four-mile history walk around the reservoir to learn more about the area's ancient past.

To find out more, call 01629 540696.

The following day, the reservoir will provide the setting for a Derbyshire Wildlife Trust children's activity, focusing on the area's wildlife in the discovery room.

The trust is also holding a workshop to help people learn about bumble bees at its workshop in Matlock Bath on Tuesday, May 6.

To find out more about either event, call 01773 881188.

Children's theme park Gulliver's Kingdom, in Matlock Bath, is using Easter to launch its new ride, Dino Falls.

The park has had a makeover ready for its 2014 season and the new ride – a series of water slides – is part of the project.

Finally, children are admitted free to Churnet Valley Railway, where trains will be running over the entire bank holiday weekend.
