PEOPLE living in and around Ashbourne are being invited to have a say on how the county council tackles flooding issues in the future.

The authority has been given new powers to help prevent flooding and protect homes and businesses from its effects and bosses are asking for help in compiling its first ever flood risk management strategy.

A consultation has begun and is on-going to find out where in the county the problems are and what should be done about them and Ashbourne residents are urged to take part.

Councillor Carol Hart, Derbyshire County Council’s cabinet member for public health, said: “Flooding is a serious issue. It can cause damage, disruption and destruction wherever it occurs.

“Increasingly heavy rainfall here in the UK over the past few years suggests the risk of flooding could be getting worse. That’s why we need to help prevent, protect and prepare for the future.

“We hope people will take part in the consultation which can be found online at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/floodrisk
