COUNTY Council leader Andrew Lewer has spoken publicly to urge people to take part in the on-going consultation into proposed ambulance station closures.

Ahead of a planned meeting with the chief executive of East Midlands Ambulance Service, which is planning to close stations including the one in Ashbourne and replace them with two regional hubs, Councillor Lewer stood up at Friday’s meeting of the Ashbourne and District 50+ Forum to remind audience members to look at the consultation.

Councillor Lewer said he welcomed the consultation, as the service was currently failing to meet its targets, but warned that rural areas such as Ashbourne could be affected if the closures were to go ahead.

The consultation is on going but is due to end on Monday, December 17.
