YOU know it’s been a successful activity break when you come home needing a holiday to get over it! And that’s exactly how you’ll feel returning from the Manor House Hotel and its sister golfing hotel, the Ashbury.

The hotels are situated in Okehampton, on the foothills of the beautiful Dartmoor National Park in West Devon.

It’s definitely not posh nosh, luxury accommodation or five-star star trimmings.

But it is — quite simply — the best holiday we’ve ever had.

What you will get is good, varied and plentiful food — to satisfy even the fussiest eater — and comfortable, adequate accommodation, in these AArecommended two star hotels.

The USP — unique selling point — of the Manor and the Ashbury, is that you simply won’t have time to get bored.

The Manor has something for everyone.

Facilities available free of charge to all residents include five indoor and five outdoor tennis courts, 13 bowls rinks, eight badminton courts, three swimming pools with spa facilities and water slides, 10 lanes of ten pin bowling, 20 snooker tables and target ranges featuring archery, pistols and rifles.

And that’s just the beginning.

A craft centre offers 17 tutored crafts including pottery, candle-making, glass engraving, enamelling, picture framing, hot press printing and woodwork.

Kids can enjoy the massive soft play adventure play area and Gamezone, and there are supervised activities during school holidays with the Acorn Club.

Golf is available free at the Ashbury, just two miles down the road, with a choice of seven 18-hole courses, a covered driving range and low-cost buggies.

Add to all this two squash courts, 12 short tennis courts, the chance to play group activities including uni-hoc, basketball, volleyball and dodgeball, pool tables, air hockey tables, table football, laser clay shooting and a pedal kart track in the woods, and you’ve still not covered it all.

If you’re worn out after all the activities or exercise there is plenty of opportunity to relax.

The Manor and Ashbury hotels offer no less than 29 of the most popular and reviving therapies, from a soothing aromatherapy massage to a stressbusting sports massage.

What you will find during your break is your timetable will become your bible as you book in for more and more activities.

Some activities are run as daily competitions, so top male, female and under 14 scorers in archery, pistols and rifles will win a prize which can be picked up at reception or redeemed against hotel or golfing merchandise.

Both hotels have TV lounges, and comfortable seating areas where you can grab a drink from the bar, a coffee, relax, read the paper or a book. Or just nod off.

This holiday really is what you make it.

All included in the price are three meals a day. You take breakfast and dinner at the hotel where you are staying but you can grab lunch at either.

Lunch opening times are extended at the Ashbury 11.30am-4.30pm — to accommodate golfers and their tee-off times. If you’re visiting during school holidays when it’s extra busy at the Manor, the Ashbury is a better option for a quieter lunchtime.

It’s a holiday set apart from any other.

Already fantastic value for money for what’s on offer, but the more you do during your break the better value it becomes.

Once tried, you’ll be bitten with the Manor bug.

Third visit down, and we’re already talking about ‘the next time’.

The Manor House and Ashbury hotels are situated on the foothills of the Dartmoor National Park in West Devon.
